Comparing home security systems is key when figuring out which company to choose for your own home protection needs. The company that your sister uses for her condo in the city may not work for your colonial out in the suburbs. This article should help you compare ADT and LifeShield Home Security prices and features.

ADT sign in front of flower bed.ADT is one of the most recognized home security brands in the industry. When you reach out to the company for home security options, you'll be offered a choice of five different packages.

Three of the options are hardwire options, which are perfect for homes that are of new construction or still in the process of being built since it's easier to access the wiring. The other two options are wireless-based, making them ideal for homes where getting to existing wiring may be prohibitively expensive.

The hardwire plans are the Critical Conditions package, the Essentials Plus package and the Family package. All of the packages contain these features:

    • Home alarm monitoring for burglary.
    • Safewatch Pro 300 control panel and touchpad.
    • Two door and two window sensors.
    • Motion detector.
    • Alerting siren.
    • Power supply with battery backup.
    • One window sign and one yard sign.

The higher priced hardwire systems add features such as smoke detectors and a choice of flood, temperature and carbon monoxide detectors.

The Family package is the most expensive hardwire package and includes all of the basics plus cellular backup in case of landline failure. Plans range starting from $35.99 per month for the Essentials Plus plan to about $46.99 per month for the Family package. Installation prices range from $99 to $449.

The wireless systems are ADT Safewatch Quick Connect and ADT Safewatch Pro RF. They offer the same features as the hardwire plans, yet with wireless controls. Monthly plans range from $35.99 to $42.99 and installation prices range from $299 to $499.

LifeShield productsLifeShield provides security to over one million homes in all fifty states, making it one of the largest security firms in the country. It offers Silver, Gold and Platinum plans. All plans include certain features:

    • One programming console.
    • Three door and three window sensors.
    • One keychain remote.
    • One motion detector.
    • One fire safety sensor.
    • One yard sign and one window sign.
    • Two indoor, 100-decibel alarms.

The Gold plan is identical to the Silver plan except that the contract is longer. The Platinum plan gives you a wireless camera that comes equipped with video monitoring, allowing you remote access wherever you have an Internet signal. Features such as additional sensors, cellular gateways, and smoke and heat detectors can be added at an extra cost.

LifeShield allows you to prepay the full cost of the equipment or make regular payments each month with a contract. For people with contracts, upfront costs range from $99 to $149, and monthly monitoring fees range from $29.99 to $34.98. After your equipment contract is up, it's yours to keep.
