New windows can breathe new life into your home and Jeld-Wen is a leading supplier of replacement windows. Most Jeld-Wen replacement windows come with tax credits and other incentives for energy conservation, and there are many resource you can use to benefit from them.
Most of the tax credits generated by choosing Jeld-Wen replacement windows are not, structly speaking, refundable, but they can be used to reduce the amount of taxes you will owe. Some states have statewide energy conservation programs where you can receive a direct tax cedit for selecting Jeld-Wen replacement windows, which is almost as good as a refund. Many of the original tax credits for energy-efficient windows from Jeld-Wen expired in 2010. New tax credits were put in place and many of the original ones were renewed for 2012, 2013 and beyond. The primary federal tax credit allows you to get back as much as 10 percent of the cost of your Jeld-Wen replacement windows, up to a total of $200. It is important to remember that you can only get the credit toward the cost of the windows, not the costs related to installing the windows in your home.
When choosing new windows to qualify for the Jeld-Wen window replacement tax credits, the windows you select must be Energy Star®-rated for use in the region where you live. Energy Star® is a federal that certifies the energy-efficiency of consumer products. In addition to rating for Energy Star®, the Jeld-Wen replacement windows you select NFRC label of the windows that you purchase must have the appropriate U-factor rating as indicated by the National Fenestration Ratings Council (NFRC).
The Jeld-Wen replacement windows that you choose must be used to improve your existing home. If you are building a new home, the replacemet window energy tax credit does not apply, though selecting Energy Star®-rated windows for your new home will generate energy savings and different tax credits. The Jeld-Wen replacement windows must be installed in your primary residence. Replacing windows in a rental property, investment property or vacation home will not qualify you for the federal replacement window energy tax credit.

It is also important to know that the federal energy tax credit has a lifetime limit. This limit is $500, and it includes any aggregate credits that you claimed from January 1, 2006, when the initial credit was offered, through the last day that the new program is offered. Be sure to keep the receipts for the purchase of the qualifying windows to document the windows' cost, minus any installation costs. You should also keep the NFRC labels from each window.
